The top ten Chinese institutions sorted by contribution are: the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Peking University, Tsinghua University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Xiamen University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), the University of Hong Kong (HKU), Nanjing University and BGI Shenzhen.
University of Science and Technology of Chinahas published 17 articles in Nature-branded primary research journalsin the past year, publishing index 8.58, jumping to the top position of Chinese universities from the second place in 2010, ranking 76th all over the worldand 11th in the Asia-Pacific area. USTC is one of the two Chinese colleges stepping into world's top one hundred universities.
Nature China adressed: "The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has an impressive lead publishing 40 articles in Nature research journals in 2010, with a corrected count of 13.35. With over 100 institutes and over 50,000 researchers, CAS is much better placed to generate large numbers of papers than a single university."
The report also points out, "The USTC publishes articles mainly in the physical sciences.Overall, there are 15 (CC 8.08) articles in the physical sciences and two (CC 0.5) in the life sciences. The primary research strengths of the USTC are in the areas of quantum physics and condensed matter physics. Guangcan Guo, Jianwei Pan and Xianhui Chen "Between 2009 and 2011, the USTC has accumulated a CC of 15.08, on par with Tsinghua University’s CC of 15.83 and ahead of Peking University’s CC of 13.51. If the USTC continues to perform strongly in Nature-branded primary research journals, we are confident that its role as a leading research institution will eventually receive recognition."
