Calvin Tyler, a master student of School of Management, first came to China as an English tutor in February 2012 at the invitation of Dr. LU Wei. Calvin grew up in the middle of the United States in Wisconsin, and hehas one older sister, a younger brother, and another even younger sister. He received his bachelor degree in Economics from Hamline University, during that time he also studied international business at Cologne Business School in Germany.
How did you know School of Management, USTC?
I learned about USTC from one of my professors who became a close friend after traveling to Germany together and spending so much time together. He also guest lectures at USTC.
What made you decide to study at USTC?
When I came here last spring I taught conversational business English to some of the MBA students and found I loved China. I decided that doing my master’s degree here would be a great opportunity to study at an incredible school and learn more about this exciting country.
What are your feelings about USTC and China? As a foreign student of USTC, what's your most difficulty?
So far I’ve been having lots of fun meeting new people and trying new foods. I was asked to describe what has been difficult about living in China but to be honest; I’ve found it quite easy! Everyone is always nice to me and the weather is better than it is in Wisconsin!
I hope that during my time here I will get to meet every student and find new friends to keep forever!
