Prof. Neal Ashkanasy, former President of ANZAM, Fellow of the Academy for the Social Sciences in the UK (AcSS) and Australia (ASSA), Professor of University of Queensland, visited the School of Management of USTC as invited from Sept 27th to Oct 1st.
During his four-day visit, Prof. Ashkanasy gave two inspiring lectures with the topic of "Research on Emotion in Organizations: A Multilevel Perspective" and "Publishing for Impact", which attracted an attendance of more than 60 students and faculty members from the School of Management, School of Public Affairs, School of Life Sciences, and School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The lectures were hosted by Associate Prof. Weng Qingxiong of the School of Management of USTC.
Prof. Ashkanasy is a leading researcher in leadership, organizational culture, ethics, and emotions in organizations. He serves on several editorial boards including the Journal of Applied Psychology and the Journal of Management, and is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Associate Editor of the Academy of Management Review and Emotion Review, and Series Co-Editor of Research on Emotion in Organizations.
In his lectures, he shared his experience related to his research work and his publishing, and his insights in the cutting-edge research about emotions in organizations. He also shed light on how to promote one's academic impact through publishing.
In the Q&A section, Prof. Ashkanasy responded to the questions of the audience with wisdom and thorough answers on issues such as obstacles in the research of emotions in organizations, the problems in the inter-disciplinary studies, the operation of experience sampling methods, and tactics in improving the acceptance and citation frequency of one's publishing. He also kindly interacted with the audience after the lectures, which deepened understandings regarding these issues from a multi-disciplinary aspect integrated from psychology, mind science, management science, and sociology.
During his visit, Prof. Ashkanasy was welcomed and accompanied by Prof. Yu Yugang, Executive Dean of the School of Management. The two exchanged ideas on the introduction of international talents and high-level academic publishing. They also discussed the promotion of cooperation between the School of Management of USTC and the Business School of the University of Queensland.
Prof. Ashkanasy also arranged a half-day of communication during his visit specifically for the students and fellow teachers who focus their research in his study area.
In the farewell party, Prof. Ashkanasy said he would attend the international conference on "professional development and occupation management" in November at USTC.
